Electro-Voice's RE27N/D is a professional quality dynamic cardioid microphone designed for broadcast production, commercial and voice-over applications, high-quality recording and sound reinforcement. The RE27N/D uses a revolutionary neodymium alloy magnet and a reinforced diaphragm dome, a combination that provides increased sensitivity (up to 6 dB more), undistorted output at high sound pressure levels, and extended high frequency response. The RE27N/D's exceptional sensitivity, excellent transient response and inherent low noise dynamic transducer combine to provide a superior signal-to-noise ratio, easily comparable to that of the best cardioid condenser microphones. To further reduce noise, a highly effective noise-cancelling coil is used to reduce hum from lighting and other sources. The continuously variable "D" design of theRE27N/D reduces the "proximity effect" that amplifies bass, to maintain a consistent low-frequency response from near or far. Two easy-to-use bass roll-off switches, offering a clean 200 Hz low-frequency cutoff or soft roll-off, are available for special situations where bass roll-off is required. A third switch is available to reduce treble boost. The RE27N/D's true, uniform cardioid polar pattern offers the greatest 180° off-axis rejection, providing superior gain before feedback. An integrated wind and breath filter covers every acoustic opening on the RE27N/D, allowing for "close talk" situations without concern for "P-pop", breath noise or excessive sibilance. Part of the crossover also allows the internal microphone transducer to be shock-mounted, reducing the transfer of vibration from external sources. This shock-mounting system and the extremely rugged steel outer housing allow the RE27N/D to withstand the rigors of professional use.
